MTS to provide cell connection, Internet on Moscow–St Pete railway
MOSCOW, Jun 17 (PRIME) -- Russian Railways has signed a memorandum with mobile operator MTS to provide the Moscow–St. Petersburg line with voice connection and the Internet, the national railway carrier said Friday.
“Today the passenger wants to have a stable connection and Internet during the whole journey. We are working on it and have reliable partners to reach these goals. We are making a pilot project with MTS,” Russian Railways’ Senior Vice President Valentin Gapanovich said.
MTS will install base stations along the line in 2016–2017 on the territory of the Moscow, Tver, Novgorod and Leningrad regions.
Valery Shorzhin, MTS’ vice president for administrative issues, said the new agreement with the carrier will allow the operator to develop connection where it is needed by subscribers.
“Quite often users value the quality of connection by availability of services in business trips and journeys across the country,” Shorzhin said.
